Firefox prevents ads from ‘chasing’ you across the web on Android

The Android version of Firefox has received an improved privacy feature, which allows site tracking through page redirection to be disabled. The feature was introduced in the desktop version of the browser since last year, and has just landed on the app for Google’s mobile system.

Extra protection

Some tracking features use searches performed and websites visited to offer advertisements and notifications that often end up hindering navigation and slowing it down.

Mozilla has endeavored to combat this practice, offering features that can make all the difference in the current segment of internet browsers. For this reason, “Enhanced protection against tracking” was introduced to the app.

Before, the tool could be easily circumvented by means of a simple trick: some sites that record user behavior used an intermediate page to record the origin and destination of the navigation, redirecting the user without his realizing it. This caused the sites to continue to store tracking data as normal.

In the new version of the tool, even if some sites use these redirect pages, the data is automatically deleted every 24 hours, which prevents the tracking from working as planned.

Enabling extra protection against trackers

To enable extra protection against crawling through redirected pages, simply follow the steps below:

1. Tap the shield icon located in the address bar:

If you notice a problem on a specific website, it is possible to add exceptions (addresses) to the blocking rules.
