Earlier this week, LG confirmed that it is withdrawing from the cell phone industry, leaving many customers of the brand concerned. To calm consumers, the company announced on Thursday (8) that all smartphones of premium lines will receive up to three updates of Android from the year of purchase.
That is, phones from the Velvet, Wing, G and V series from 2019 or later should receive three system upgrades. Some 2020 models, such as LG Stylo and the K series, will receive only two updates. The company points out, however, that the updates will depend on Google’s distribution schedule, as well as the performance and compatibility of the device with the system.
The manufacture of cell phones will continue until July this year to fulfill contractual obligations with partners. People interested in the brand’s smartphones will be able to purchase the models to date.
Closure of factories
The closure of the smartphone sector has affected not only customers but also LG employees. Last Monday (5), the South Korean company confirmed that it will finalize activities aimed at the smartphone sector at its factory located in the city of Taubaté, in São Paulo.
It is estimated that 400 employees working in the sector will be dismissed by July. Following the statement, factory employees are holding a series of protests in front of the company. The group demands that all labor rights be guaranteed.
